18 IPs receive houses

GOVERNOR Susan Yap and Vice Governor Carlito “Casada” David led the turn-over and blessing of a housing project to 18 beneficiary families belonging to the Indigenous People [IP] of Sitio Baag, in San Jose, September 24.

The turn-over of houses is part of the celebration of IP Month in which the National Commission of Indigenous Peoples [NCIP] emphasized the importance of self-governance in protecting ancestral lands among IP communities.

In her message, Gov. Yap said that the protection of the ancestral domains of the IPs is tantamount to their self-governance.

“More units are under construction and we shall be turning these over to other beneficiaries soon. We need to protect our IPs ancestral domains so we can all strengthen their rights,” Gov. Yap said.

This year’s IP celebration has a theme “The Journey of Indigenous Peoples for Genuine Recognition, Respect, and Self Governance”.

The occasion also saw the groundbreaking of the much broader housing project for the IPs of San Jose.

Vice Governor David said, “Ang inyo pong lingkod at ang buong Sangguniang Panlalawigan ay patuloy na magseserbisyo ng tapat at magbabalangkas ng mga proyekto at programa para sa ikauunlad ng ating probinsya,”

Present during the occasion are NCIP Commissioner Rolando Rivera, Mayor Romeo Capitulo, Vice Mayor Samuel Eugenio and the San Jose Sangguniang Bayan Members, Board Members Jude Joseph David, Joy Gilbert Lamorena, Antonio Cervantes Jr. and Joselito Capitulo and Tarlac Police Provincial Director PCol. Renande Cabico.
