THE yuletide season is already here in Tarlac province as Governor Susan Yap, together with other provincial officials led the lighting of the 35-foot high Christmas Tree, Belen and the decors at the façade of the capitol building and at the Maria Cristina Park, evening of December 1.
The lighting, witnessed by a jam-packed crowd, was also the judging of the 7th Parol Making Contest participated in by the different Tarlac Local Government Units (LGUs) and private entities.
In Gov. Yap’s message, she said that Tarlaqueños can now feel the Christmas season and likewise invited all those who would like to see a different Christmas atmosphere to visit the Maria Christina Park.
“Sobrang enjoy akong makita ang nagniningning na Tarlac! Ramdam na ramdam ko na ang diwa ng Pasko sa plaigid. Salamat sa pagdalo ninyong lahat,” Gov. Yap said.
The municipality of Victoria was adjudged winner of the Parol Making Contest with San Jose and Ramos placing second and third respectively. The parol entry of the municipality of Sta. Ignacia won the Governor’s Choice award. Victoria won a cash prize of P50,000 while San Jose received P40,000 and Ramos P30,000. Sta. Ignacia also received P30,000. Consolation prize of P15,000 were awarded to all those who participated.
Parol Making Contest judges are National Historical Commission Commissioner Professor Lino Dizon, popular giant lantern maker Arvin Quiwa, Tarlac Police Provincial Director P/Col. Erwin Sanque and Tarlac City Councilor Pee Jay Basangan.
Also attending the event are Vice Governor Carlito David, Congressmen Jaime Cojuangco (first district) and Christian Tell Yap (second district), Board Members Joy Gilbert Lamorena, Danilo Asiaten, Christopher delos Reyes, Harmes Sembrano, Henry Cruz, Joselito Capitulo, Christine Dizon and Jude Joseph David, Mayors Rex Villa Agustin (Victoria) and Romeo Capitulo (San Jose), Vice Mayors Venus Razalan (Mayantoc), Riza Eugenio (San Jose), Nathaniel Tan (Sta. Ignacia), Diosdado Reginaldo (Ramos) and Genaro Mendoza (Tarlac City), Councilors Emy Ladera (Tarlac City), Emilio Macasaet (San Jose) and Luke Pagarigan (Camiling).
“This is much awaited…kung baga, ito yung pinaka hihintay natin—ang umpisa ng paggunita ng ating kapistahan ng pasko and December is always the best season. Let us not forget to always be kind. To love and kindness to all,” Gov. Yap concluded.—Arvin F. M. Cabalu/PIO
